What is Diabetes?

 Diabetes also known as diabetes mellitus is a group of  Metabolic diseases in whi h their are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period.

This high blood sugar produces symptoms of frequent urination, increased thirst and increased in hunger.

Untreated diabetes can leads to many complications. Acute complications include diabetics ketoacidosis and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma. Serious long term complications include heart-diseases, stroke, kidney-failure, foot ulcer and damages to the eye.

Diabetes is due to either the pancreas is not producing enough insulin or the cell of the body is not responding properly to the insulin produced.

We have different types of diabetes which is listed as follows:

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus:  Result from the failure of the body to produce enough and adequate insulin needed. It was formerly referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or juvenile diabetes mellitus.

This types of diabetes was assumed or detected to be created by an autoimmune reaction.

This can be in the body for some times even years before appearing to show any signs or symptoms.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus:. This begin with an insulin resistance, a condition in which cells of the body fails to respond to the insulin properly.

As this disease progresses, a lack of insulin may occur thus this made the scientist refer this to as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus [NIDDM] or adult-onset-diabetes.

The primary cause is an excessive weight and low regular exercise.

Type 3 Diabetes Mellitus: This is also known as Gestational Diabetes
